Since I did this last time 10 years ago, there have been so many changes I really have no idea where to start. Could someone give me a nudge in the right direction? At one time it was not possible in win64 and only win32 but I guess thas no longer true?

I now have a 5ghz i7, with ssd and nvidia 1650 OC so Im hoping hardware is no longer a problem either.

I think that the general approach has been to use external screen capture solutions, even the Windows 10 included XBox Game Bar. Most of them are hardware accelerated nowadays, and you have the added benefit of making better use of multiprocessor/multithreaded systems.

I saw your post on the FB group, and yes, you got some replies. All of them are consistent with what Pedro posted - they're generally separate programs that run on another thread, many of them make use of hardware compression on the GPU.

And thats why there are riots in the USA. People are so convinced thy are doing the right thing, they got to get me out of bed when I am sick to read posts when I ask them not to. Let me start by saying that I have the utmost consideration for the work you have been developing and sharing throughout the years on these forums. I pondered whether to comply with your kind and friendly UPPERCASE request to not post pointless statements, but I really don't think it's pointless. If you don't want to get out of bed to read "pointless" posts, as Roman responded, you know you can turn notifications off, right? Or even ignore them? Trying to mold the internet's behavior to your liking probably isn't a sustainable strategy for your social and psychological well being, particularly with that first ammendment "inconvenience", you know?

Back on topic, if you were counting that the forum's answer was "what you expected or hoped to hear", what would be the point in posting the question in the first place, namely with the phrasing "Since I did this last time 10 years ago, there have been so many changes I really have no idea where to start"? People that have very specific questions and want very specific answers usually don't phrase it like this and ask for a "nudge in the right direction". And, at least out of politeness, when being given honest and constructive advice don't complain that "there has been a real decline in quality in all kinds of online forums over the past decade". I'm sorry if our answers were not consonant to your quality standards, but they were freely given with good intent and in the context of the original question. After your rant, Jesse's follow-up answer was still extremely polite, showing a level of restraint I often wish I had.

And, to finalize, I think that two determining factors in the "decline in quality in all kinds of online forums" are probably 1. posting already covered topics without searching first, and 2. rudeness towards whoever took some of its own time trying to help them.
