Building a VST plugin using Max8
Hi. I am looking into purchasing max 8 to enable me to build a custom audio / midi apps.
Key to this is to have them finally built in the VST format to use as plugins accross several DAWs etc.
I see there has been some discussion in the past on this topic, however these are now older posts. I am hoping someone could give me an update.
Note - I can code ok-ish in the likes of C# & C++, however one of the attractions of Max is to be able to quickly patch ideas together graphically etc. This attraction would be totally negated if, to get the finished patch built as a VST, i have to carry out multiple other steps using JUCE etc.
If building as a VST is not currently possible, I would be most grateful for any advice as to if and when this will become a feature. For me at least, Max would then become a viable option.
Many thanks
Michael
hi !
im pretty sure max wont contract with steinberg now while they are coupled with ableton that offers cross environment for all sorts of media input, and plugin scenario called max4live where you actually could write your externals/objects in other languages that consumes your low level stuff... me personally is using max for all sorts of prototypings, provings, findings and designing the software to be build ecactly with ... JUCE :D this is obvious for many reasons, and this is also why i bought max yeeeeaaars ago, just with that intention... now GEN lets you incorporate advanced patching into plugable C++, and there is even tutorial of how to randevous GEN and JUCE together. im encouraging you to change your thinkin a bit.

@UG u have just charmed away the beauty of human curiosity and uncle 'search' factor from our op
thanks for the answers guys/gals..
DO - i appreciate what you are saying, but for me, i really want to stay focused on the music - hence the appeal of the max environment.
over the years, learning codes and platforms, etc, there is alway soo much down time and hidden quirks, that lead down so many time consuming non music making rabbit holes.
some built in process in max to export as a vst would appear to justify another relatively small detour and would for me make max a really attractive option...
UG: thanks dude, or dudess. I have already looked at this vid. It's an option but as for reasons mentioned above, not one that my day to day music making window can really justify.
if ooonly some really bright spark could deliver a free 'drop on to auto convert' utility lol ;-D
much appreciated guys (or maybe even) / girls :)
... once upon a time there was a 'pluggo' :D really there was something from cycling guys that has the ability to open patches as VSTs instide such wrapper :D times move on , there is ableton, everyting is more than fine not to get into dsp for the whole life... i think that staying in max than trying to dig around JUCE and VST is far more creativity opening environment than the numbers itself. i do music myslef, i know the needs, and max is just ... for that
i still build pluggos from time to time.
@Roman, you ol' dirty license owner :D
yous are teasing me here.
shame on yous lol.
Pluggos.. another rabbit hole? or a vst wrapper?
@cycling ... a customer note, people think that pluggo name is something silly :D
@Roman, you ol' dirty license owner :D
that is mean, isn´t it? you can upgrade most programs, but not downgrade them.
that´s why you always have to preserve the past on your own.
