After following the 'Download Max 8' link on the site it appears possible to download older version of Max, so presumably you could get a license/upgrade for Max 8 and download the Max 7 and use that.

I'm not associated with c74 so this advice comes free of any warranty or guarantees :-)

not cycling either, but it is easy. in case a max license doesnt authorise older verions technically anyway, @support will always be able to authorise you an older version than what you have bought, back to max v.3.x
