When first creating a umenu object, it is empty ( as on the left).. .however, once I bang it, it is populated (as on the right).  Curious if there is a way to 'reset' the state of the script so that it is empty again...

I'm trying to midi map or key map a live.tab object in Live, but it's the same in max. The live.tab object has 3 tabs and I'm expecting that I can assign each tab to a different midi or key command. The only way it works is to have one single midi or key command that cycle between tabs. 

Let's say I have the default live.tab that comes with 3 tabs labeled "one" "two" "three". Let's say I would like to assign the numeric keys "1", "2" and "3" to the tabs in order to directly control the switching. I can' find any possible way; I can assign only one command.

I can't figure out how to have 3 different midi or key command to select directly each one of the tabs of live.tab.

I have noticed a bug with max for live that i hope would be easy to fix.

I am making a m4l device that requires adding live.remote~ objects dynamically, they simply don't work when doing so: when sending the appropriate id to the object the parameter doesn't get mapped.

I made a m4l patch that demonstrates that:

First map a paramater in live (a knob or anything) as described in the device, you will notice that it gets mapped just fine;

Then open the patch, delete the live.remote~ object, save the device, and close the max editor;

Now press the right button in the device to dynamically add a live.remote~ object and connect it in the exact same way it was before you deleted it;

Now when trying to map a paramter in Live as stated above it doesn't work.

It would be very nice if someone from the Cycling '74 could check this out.

This has been the case as long as I can remember.

@C74: assuming there’s a technical reason for this limitation it would be appropriate to add documentation about this to live.remote~ and “limitations of max for live”.

it would be way cooler if it just worked, though ;)

The solution I went for is having a lot of live.remote~ objects in a patcher (250 is the max number of signal inlets in a patcher) and connecting them dynamically. I hope this helps

Well sorry but my first steps on max are going very badly... I thought I could easily reach my goal without help... but I have to resolve to call on the community:

I have a simple m4l device that allows to send a midi message "bank pgm 1" to a midi controller, for this part it's good, 

But I would like to send the midi value "1" each time the  device is selected and only when it is selected. It may be simple but. i've been struggling for over a week.

With recent tests I've noticed that the latency of send/receive seems related to Live's audio buffer size.

So in contrast to earlier versions, there is no jitter and the latency seems predictable to some degree.

Can this result be confirmed by the developers?

I've repeated the test with another setup and this time found latency near 0!
Apparently it depend somehow on the setup, in short: the latency is basically *not* predictable.

The question remains if the *maximal* latency is predictable, ie. determined by the audio buffer.

My second test was minimal.
No audio track, just 2 MIDI tracks with M4L MIDI effect on each for sending a bang and receiving it.
Time measurement with [cpuclock].

I guess the 0 latency was achieved because in this case both tracks did run on the same thread.
But the behavior may be difficult to reproduce depending on other unknown factors.

Are there any other info about send~ and receive~'s latency?

I just realized this latency by playing my double bass through Max and comparing with and without send~/receive~. The latency is pretty obvious to my ears without any measurement.
This is weird because I've been playing my bass through Max for 6 years and didn't really notice anything. I always have exactly the same settings that I loadbang. 

Does this latency adds up if I have several chains of send~/receive~?

There should be a mention about that somewhere in the help file, reference or tutorials.

I think send~ receive~ pair have a latency of 1 signal vector, so if you have a large vector and a signal going through a number of these pairs you'll get a noticeable latency

it is always one vector, but if it properly works in live is another question.

Broc's tests above show that it is not predictable and consistent.
Why? What does it depend on?
