I have a max device in ableton that takes midi data in and controls Led strips.

When the patch is open ( edit mode) Abletons CPU consumption is abou 8 %.......if I close the patch it goes up 100% sometimes.....

I try unchecking overdrive.... no results.....try defer and deferlow on data input......nothing.....any idea? Thanks

Hi! Since days I'm not making any progress with a device I have in mind. I tried to learn from others devices ("reverse engineered"), asked 

 and so on. I tried [coll] different [zl] objects but I'm stuck. 

Let me explain where I am and what I want to achieve.

Now I'm stuck. I want the stored ID's to route to individual [message] - at least I think I need that step. Actually I want the stored ID's routed to individual [live.modulate] objects. Depending on the selected device I'll (probably) have 4 up to 24 IDs which then needs to be routed to 4 up to 24 [live.modulate].

I feel dumb because there is probably a pretty easy solution :D

What could be an sane approach to get the stored IDs [

I'd like to get the currently playing clip name. I have no problem getting the name of a session clip, but I want to keep track of the currently playing clip, either in session or in arrangement.

The only way I see for now to get the clip currently playing in arrangement would be to get all arrangement clip ids, get the current transport time, and check for all of them if the current time fits into the starting and end points. That can't be that twisted, can it ?

I have a Max for Live device that uses an abstraction. The Max device is frozen.

I adjusted the abstraction to add some improvements.

When I open and unfreeze the Max device, it still uses the old abstraction, which now lives in the Max for Live Devices folder. The new version of the abstraction is located inside the discarded subfolder. I would expect the opposite. Why discard another/newer version of a patcher that was not even part of the device?

Replacing the old patcher file with the new one breaks existing objects. Creating new ones works, of course. Even if replacing files would work, it would kind of defeat the purpose of abstractions as reusable objects. I shouldn't deal with file management.

What is the best way to have devices always use the abstractions from my Library folder rather than unfrozen ones?

I work on a couple of M4L devices with floating window and a zoom-able UI. For the zooming part I use a piece of code (js ps.window_zoom.js) I've found here

We've created MaxPy Studio, a web platform that generates Max for Live devices (audio effects and MIDI instruments) from natural language prompts. You can prompt, iterate, and download the .amxd to drag into Ableton.

It's far from perfect, but it could potentially help non-Max experts create M4L devices more easily.

It seems that a subdiv in a newly loaded patcher wont evaluate a recently assigned prob value as soon as the transport starts...is there a workaround for this?

If you load up this example patcher and then start the transport, the first subdiv of 16 gets output according to subdiv's default @prob 1 while the following subdivs get the more recently assigned prob 0. On subsequent loops, no subdivs are output so its only that first loop where the new prob value isn't evaluated for the very first subdiv. 

This is a dumbed down example but its causing me problems in a sequencer device I'm building whereby the first note is often triggered when it shouldnt be or not triggered when it should be after my device has been loaded and the transport is started for the first time. Beyond that first time, the first subdiv is output correctly. 

For anyone who might want to test it more quickly by deleting/re-loading the device in Live i'll include an .amxd
