Not really what you're looking for, but the Virtual Choir M4L device made by Ircam plays chords on the fly accordingly to the currently sung note (melody) and in a way that sounds musical regarding the defined scale and previous chord(s). However I don't have this device so I cannot look inside of it to know how it's made.
