Creating a series/slideshow using Images and Gifs

Hello I'm very new to Max. So far I've learned some basics in audio visual manipulation, with a lot of help from various tutorials. I've come up with an idea (well I'm sure its been done many times) basically I would like to be able to use a series of images and gifs in a certain order (e.g from films or games) and have specific theme music for each image as they play. I would probably add random effects to the images too. Will gifs even work in Max? Sorry if these questions seem silly i'm VERY new to this programme.
