Creating a virtual projector / barcode scanner style laser
Hi there.
I'm looking at lighting 3d scenes with virtual lights. I've had a look at the new jit.gl.light object in Max 6 but I cant see a way of changing the shape of the spotlight so its long and thin, like a barcode scanner style light. Any pointers?
Also how would I go about projecting a matrix out like a light source? any Ideas of where I should look?
Thanks in advance
Chris G
Right.
@tex_map 3 seems to be a good starting place along with tex_plane_s and tex_plane_t but it appears that this is "relative to OpenGL's eye coordinates".
I'm after a free moving texture mapper similar to the jit.gl.light object.
I'll keep looking...
I'm looking for something similar for an advanced projection mapping project.

This is exactly what I am looking for also. Is there any way to shape the spotlight?
Is there any easy way to create a shadow? Shadow as a consequence of light going through a long and thin window/slot?
I know that "barcode scanner style light" can be faked by drawing a line in jit.lcd and using the output as a texture. But my problem is that I am stretching the openGL object to such an extend, that one pixel increment looks as a big step. So the movement of "light" is not continuous. I could solve that with large texture matrix and large jit.lcd, but my CPU does not agree with that.
Help pretty please
I want my Data Matrix barcode to be mapped out like light source..
hello, why don't you try this one to help you create a barcode scanner style laser?
in my view, it is helpful, hope you like it,
Did anyone make any progress on this? Would love to create some stage type spotlights...
