Creating effects for MOD Duo in gen~
Based on the article on the home page and a couple of promotional videos, I just purchased the MOD Duo effects pedal with the goal of making my own effects.
Unfortunately, I'm a Max and programming newbie and didn't realize gen~ is a more complicated version/variation of Max. Now I feel like I've gotten in over my head with a lengthy, steep learning curve to figure out how to create MOD effects in gen~.
The pedal comes with a 30-day return refund guarantee. I'd rather not do that. But unless I can figure out the basics of gen~ in the next month, it might be necessary. The pedal is not inexpensive. Any thoughts or help is appreciated.
Hi Dave,
Indeed gen~ is not a "drag and drop" application but rather a programming environment. And yes, there is a learning curve. If you feel like diving into this world (which to me is awesome) I'd recommend not to start with gen~ patching right away but with "regular" Max. There is far better documentation and literature available. The built in Max/MSP tutorials are of a good quality. I'd also recomment the two Volumes of "Electronic Music and Sound Design". (The third one is on the way AFAIK)
Once you are more familiar with creating audio patches in Max, you can start rewriting the sound engine parts of some pstches you like in gen.
