encode 4 channels into 2 channels
I would like to get 4 channels encoded into a stereo signal to be able to decode it onto 2 different stereo tracks. It would bypass the limitation of the stereo tracks of Ableton.
Do you know how to do it? It should be an algorythm similar to the surround sound we had in the DVD era where all the 5.1 where encoded into the stereo output of the dvd player...
I found that post
https://cycling74.com/forums/decorrelation-of-rear-speakers
that's explaining how to decode the signal but I don't know how to encode the signal :
Left (would be the regular Left channel)
Center (would be the COMBINED Left and Right channels)
Right (would be the regular Right Channel)
Rear Left and Rear Right (would be the DIFFERENCE between the Left and Right channels)
Sub (would be everything below approx 80hz from the Combined Left and Right channels)
sub is mono, so you put 50% to L and 50% to R. no idea about rear.
Check out Matrix H encoding. A bit old and not without loss, but perhaps suits your application: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matrix_H
