Enttec DMX USB Pro and frequent Max crashes
I am a bit desperate with LOTS of Max crashes with Enttec DMX USB Pro (mk1). I tried Max 8 and then Max 7 in 32-bit, as suggested, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference.
I’ve been using the fxwdmxusbpro (from François Weber here: https://cycling74.com/forums/enttec-dmx-usb-pro-new-max-object-imp-dmx-usbpro-beta-version) patches, and I’m on a retina MBP with El Capitan. Does anyone have any tips towards increasing its stability?
I also don’t know if it matters, but I am using a MIDI sequencer to send parameters that are converted into rgb values and sent to the fxwdmxusbpro patch. I am not using any serial driver, since Enttec's Pro Manager says I don't need one and works. Everything works fine, other than the crashes, and CPU and memory usage in Ableton and Max seems to be ok.
Any help will be DEEPLY appreciated!
This would probably be better passed along to Cycling '74's customer support, along with the usual information about the platform/OS you're working with, version of Max, etc.
Thanks Gregory, apparently I managed to make it more stable in the meantime. I limited the speed of messages sent to the DMX abstraction (I had a pak updating very often before -- duh) and also cleared a possible MIDI feedback loop.
If you are hitting the serial port too hard then that's a good way to crash Max, but it sounds like you may have worked that out already.
Thanks Luke, yes, I found it the hard way... now it is actually pretty stable. I assumed that without obvious CPU or memory overload, it couldn't be that bad, but I was wrong. Now a single 25 ms metro controls all messaging flow to serial, and it works.
