f = wR/2pi

So Miller Puckette's book, The Theory and Technique of Electronic Music, says that f = wR/2pi. where f = frequency, w = angular frequency, and R = sample rate. Except when actually doing the math or googling it, the actual formula is f = w/2pi.
Can anyone explain this?

The physics formula is w/2pi but the digital domain (specifically DSP) makes use of normalized frequency.
