First patch: stochastic sequencer
Hi,
I'm new to Max MSP and I'm working on my first patch for a university project and was looking for some advice.
At the moment it is a fairly crude probability step sequencer with a few extra dynamic (random) options. I guess where I'm stuck at is that I want to introduce more dynamic and stochastic elements though I'm not sure where to go from here. I know I want to have a few more options to manipulate the sequences and then perhaps expand the patch by building up a few more sequencers and creating relations between them. Though how this could work I'm not quite sure yet.
I've been fairly influenced by Mark Fell's radio show on process music (http://rwm.macba.cat/en/generative_music_tag) and it's with this experimental approach I'm hoping to take the patch forward. I've been looking at Iannis Xenakis's work in particular and his use of mathematical systems in his compositional process, though struggling to see how I can translate his ideas to something like this.
Anyway I'd really appreciate some advice from any experienced users who could perhaps offer me some suggestions or point me in a useful direction.
Thanks!
Hi,
I'm interested in this idea, and tried to use your patch to listen to its result, but theres a prr-object which is missing. Should this be a patcher called rr?
Check out Christopher Dobrain's tutorials if you've not already:

Hi, thanks for the link! Had a short look, will check it further when I have some time.
There's a great topic on the forum with lots of ideas and suggestions: https://cycling74.com/forums/techniques-for-generative-music/
Hello out there so any info related to this prr-object which is missing? THX!
