Generating music [or at least 'audio art'] from 2d or 3d coordinates
I am a new user of Max. I asked tech support whether Max could perform a certain function, and they replied 'Ask the Forum', so here I am. I would like to link 2 or 3 sound generators to mathematical curves. I envision either a 2d curve (i.e., a curve in an x-y coordinate system) or a 3d curve (x-y-z coordinate system), where each data point represents 2 or 3 pitches respectively. The user would move a cursor along the curve, generating some very-likely weird 2- or 3-part 'harmonies'. Eventually, a user might learn which mathematical formulae generate useful sounds. A really primitive, ridiculously-simple example of what I have in mind can be heard in a song I wrote called 'Icarus', at http://www.rightwaymusic.com/lyrics_icarus.html, about 1 minute into the song. where 4 voices move at first in the same direction, but later diverge. I asked tech support whether Max could be used to link a mathematical coordinate system to a sound generating system, but they weren't sure. Has any Forum user ever heard of such a system? Thanks!
