Heads up serial users (Mac)

I just discovered that the serial object appears to be broken in 8.5.7. Reverted to 8.5.6 and it's working there. Reported to cycling.

broken on MacOS or Windows ?

I just tested on Mac High Sierra, few Arduinos, no problem at all.

Fair enough. This is on Sonoma, and it didn’t work. Reverting to 8.5.6 fixed the problem.

You could try to give Max full disk access permission.

i just tried re-installing 8.5.7, and [serial] didn’t work again.
I checked, and Max already has full disk access.
Back to 8.5.6 again. And it’s working.
To be a bit more precise, [serial] is finding connected devices ok (ie it’s filling a umenu with available ports when I send the print message). But it’s not outputting any data when I bang it with [metro].

Mac OSX Sonoma 14.1.2

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like it's a case for support.

I had my hands yesterday on new M3 MacBook Pro with latest sonoma to tame system for a customer for live performances.
tested max 8.5.7 serial with arduino ch340 usb-serial
and sending & receiving worked perfectly.
I should mention that I disabled SIP and gatekeeper entirely.
It would be interesting to hear which boards do not work,
maybe it is chip specific.

I’m using Arduino Nanos.
After much back & forth with support, and testing various different scenarios with 8.5.6 & 8.5.7 on 2 different Macs (M1 & M2), there does seem to be an issue with the new serial object. And if I replace the new one in the 8.5.7 Package with the old one from 8.5.6, then I don’t have any problems with 8.5.7. So something’s going on.
