help controlling VST with midi controller

Hello all,
I guess Im a bit of a noob...
Just trying to control some parameters on a vst effect with my midi controller
I can do this when there is a midi learn function on a given vst plugin.. but cant figure it out else wise..
specifically I wanna control a parameter when I move a knob on my Midi keyboard. Like on CC 17 and 19 on my keyboard but its CC 4 and 5 on the VST I think.. Anyways any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Trying to redo my entire live setup on Max cuz I use FL studio right now and that program seems to eat up lots memory and I get too many underruns and it sounds like crap

Thanks in advance!
Dario

Well I'm not expert on using VSTs in max, but but you could just get the CCs from your keyboard and modify the CC number.

is there also a way that I could modify the CC number of the plugin and then have that be the CC number that I link to the knob on my keyboard? This would be preferable to the above way because I usually have a knob control multiple parameters on different VST plugins..

it didnt really work.. not too sure why though... the knob on the keyboard controls the parameter, but it just goes from zero to like really high on the plugin without a nice gradual taper
