Help For MAX Project - (XY Synth)
Hey guys, i'm sorry if this is a bit vague or noob-ish.
I have a project to do on MAX 7 for university. My idea is to create a synth that can be controlled on an XY pad using touch OSC on an iphone.
My inspiration is the app 'Bebot' http://www.normalware.com/
It doesn't have to look amazing. Or even sound amazing. It just has to work.
Problem is i'm brand new to MAX and I struggle getting my head around it sometimes.
I was just wondering if any of you would be able to give me some advice, or starting points to get me going? Any help would be hugely appreciated as the deadlines looming and i'm begging to panic a little!
Kind Regards,
Thomas Dickinson.
Break the problem down into smaller pieces:
1. What are you using to send OSC on the phone? What messages is it putting out?
2. What Max objects receive OSC data? (type OSC into the text box in the upper-right-hand side of any patcher window and see what it shows you)
3. What noises do you want to make? [Spend some time with Max and do a tutorial or two].
4. What do you have to do to make the incoming OSC data display as x/y values?
That kind of thing. You'll get much better answers to your problems if you show people your work and then ask specific questions based on that.
Hello,
Thanks for your response. I'll be using the touch OSC app on the iphone https://hexler.net/touchosc to send the data. I know how to program what I want within this app.
I want a choice of 3 different interchangeable synths sound, and an xy control surface to control pitch horizontally, and modulation vertically.
I'm ok with making the synths within Max, but my problem lies with getting them set up so they can be played and modulated with the xy parameter.
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how they might go about achieving this in Max.
Again, i'm fairly new to Max so please excuse me if this is a bit of a washy question.
Thank you.
Tom.
