Help required sending MIDI notes to control VST~

Hi all,

I have a project which requires Antares Autotune and Harmony Engine be run in Max and their voices controlled by MIDI notes sent to the plugins. I've been able to achieve this in Logic X but not in Max so am hoping someone can offer assistance here.

The parameters of the VST~ object are all responding to list changes (integer followed by a float) but I'm unable to get the VST~ to respond to MIDI notes.

Success with Logic by following Antares instructions:

4. Load Harmony Engine as the "Instrument" input on the software instrument track. (It's available under: AU MIDI-controlled Effects)."

5. In the Harmony Engine plug-in window, click on the "Side Chain" drop-down menu in the upper right corner and select the audio track you created in step 2 (for example, "Audio 1").

6. Set the "Harmony Source” control to “MIDI Omni.”

Attached are two images showing that the side chain option is only available when Harmony Engine is set up on an Instrument Software track in Logic. It seems that this is what's required to get it over the line in Max, as far as I can tell, but for all my reading and re-reading and researching, I can't figure out how to make this happen with the VST~ object nor find another object that will suffice.

Thanks for reading and thanks for any help! Greatly appreciate it.

Cheers,
Dawes

With Harmony Engine as the instrument on a software instrument track in Logic; MIDI notes in the track control the harmonies, the audio comes in via Side Chain (top right).

With Harmony Engine on audio track in Logic; passes audio and can retune but the harmony voices can't be controlled by MIDI notes as the plugin doesn't accept MIDI notes in

Note to anybody reading this at home:
If you ever find yourself scratching your head, wondering “Could the help file be wrong?”, simply double check that you've connected the correct outlets to the correct inlets…

And if anyone's reading this to find out more about Max running Harmony Engine and/or Autotune, they run beautifully and sound awesome; do it!
