HID grabbing with hi object bug?

Falk's icon

Hi List,

Can anyone confirm that the hi object is not working on 7.3.1?
steps to reproduce:

1. open the hi help file
2. generating the menu items with "menu" message
3. pressing "poll 10" message
4. selecting any item on the list
5. watch the Max Console

-on OS X 10.12.2 MBP 17 2011 2,3 8GB it is filling the umenu but no output after step 3

-on win7 workstation 32bit no menu is generated in step 2

-on win 10 64bit MS surface computer also no menu is generates in step 2

sounds more like a stupid thing I did wrong since nobody reported yet....please make me see ;-)

thanks
Falk

Windows do not allow mouse and keyboards to be used as HID.
That's maybe why You get nothing in the menu.
Have You connected anything else that might appear as a HID, like Joystick ?
On Mac if there is no output, means that You didn't select a Device which produces some output.

Hi Source Audio,
Thanks for your Answer. I did select an item in the menu on OS X, still not working, have been using this before.
I connected an contour shuttle pro 2 to the mac, the device is not seen in the menu. I checked PD extended on the mac, the HID Object will work fine there. the contour is not working on the windows system either...very strange
cheers

That's definitally an issue with that specific device.
One needs to install a driver for it to work.
Is it really HID compliant ?
Usually HID devices need no dedicated drivers.
On windows, it is definitely as I said, mouse or keyboard are not
going to work in HI object.
But on Mac they should.

I just checked on a different mac (mini) with OS X 10.10 and the latest Max...the device is correctly installed an is working in other applications in Max It is listed in the max menu, selecting it will tell me "focussing on shuttlePRO v2" but also no output neither automatic polling nor manual polling via bang, That mac mini has a Wacom Cintiq13 HD connected which I can also focus on but which does not produce output.
on my MBP I guess if the contour would not be HID compliant, PD would not produce any output either. unfortunately I don´t have a joystick here at work, nor an older version of Max.

That is really annoying, but if You can use shuttlePRO as a simple mouse, than You can select the trackpad
on the Macbook and check if something gets out of HI object.
So to check if HI objects works or not.
Important is to have another mouse working, because when HI is focussing on a Device,
it disables it for OS.

The shuttle is more like a Keyboard rather than a mouse you can google Countour ShuttlePRO v2 it is good for Transport things...
I checked the trackpad, there is nothing coming out at all, if I connect a simple mouse on the MBP it is working as expected in the OS but does not generate an extra menu line in the hi help file.
I have my old MBP mit an older version of max, I will check that at home as well as a joystick

I just tested hi object in max 7.3.1 osx 10.6.8 and everything works as expected,
internal keyboard, trackpad, joystick etc.
So maybe You have some other problem in Max installation.
Hard to say what.

Hi,
same here. Checked a lot on the net but it seems nobody deals with this. My guess is that the ShuttleV2 is registered as Mouse or Keyboard which win7 then prevents it to be listed as available HID in hi object. I've been trying to check on that through some usb.org stuff but really haven't found the time yet to breake it up. On mac it works, its defenatly more a win7 thing. Have been trying to get my V2 to work for a long time ;)

Best J.

p.s. Any developer here who can give us a lift ?

Hi Harlekin,

Just rechecked, now the shuttle V2 is working on OS X. I did an OS update to 10.12.2 the other day I guess this fixed it. The Device internal Keyboard/Trackpad/3 Keyboard is also working now.

cheers Falk

Hi Falk,

my bad, I've been speaking win7. On OSX I never had a problem with the v2 Shuttle.

So if anyone had it running or could give a lift on win7 would be a glance..

Anyway, thx for the reply Falk.

Bye
Josh
