How can I control a gate's input using Max for Live? Beginner Max user!

Hey guys!

I am an audio engineer trying to wrap my head around Max. I want to be able to control the input of a gate so that I can later automate it. Is there a Max plugin or patch that would help me do that in Live 9?

Any input will be highly appreciated!!!

Thanks a lot!

your custom patch will do that, and building it will be easy enough to function as good beginner exercise.

not sure if you already have max installed and if you are talking about an audio gate or the [gate] object, but this doesnt make a difference.

for max4live there are special live objects which make the inplementation of an automatable parameter for something in your patch a nobrainer.

Hi Roman, thanks for your reply. Yes, I am talking about an audio gate in Live. I would like to be able to control it with a simple Max patch that I can insert as an object. I have no idea where to start though, any suggestions? Cheers!

so do you have max4live installed or not?

in max4live a patcher document works as live device.

the easiest way how to control a gate would be to build a gate yourself right in max4live. but you can control other plug-ins or devices, too when required.

it is tempting now to point you to the manual, the tutorial patchers and the online object reference but i can resist.

Thanks for your reply. Yes of course I have installed max4live and I am doing some trial patches to understand how to build the gate. As mentioned before, I am very new to Max since my main job is recording :-) I appreciate any tips on how to build the gate as a plugin for Live.

Thanks a lot!
