How to get AUDIO from MAX through HDMI to CRT television via RCA
I have a project that utilizes 4 CRT TVs connected to 2 Macbooks. There are Thunderbolt 2 to HDMI adapters, which are connected to HDMI to RCA adapters and then RCA into the TVs. We are able to obtain video into the televisions via RCA but not audio. Can someone tell me if our patch is at fault? I have included that patch below. Please, any help would be great!
This is not so much a Max question as an interface question. Your Thuderbolt2->HDMI adapter should show up as an audio interface in the Audio Status menu. Select this as output device and send the audio there. With RCA the audio signal is on separate connecters. Your HDMI to RCA converter should have RCA audio out (if it supports the HDMI audio signal). Connect those to the CRT TV.
If the HDMI port does not show up as an audio device it maybe does not support audio.
If you want to control the audio of your movies you should use jit.movie~ that has audio output, then place a Dac~ and check in Audio status that output device is the Hdmi adapter, otherwise there are other solutions less simple (use jit.movie and setup your Mac audio out to the Hdmi adapter, but in this way you don't have the same control of the audio . You'll need to send to jit.movie the message vol with value between 0. and 1.).
Another thing:
You could use only one "key" object and connect to <sel 49 50 51 52 53 ecc>, it's just to simplify things,
it doesn't have nothing to do with the audio problem.
Excuse me, the case is I will be going VIDEO out of the machine in TWO different ways: One is HDMI out and the other is Thunderbolt to HDMI out. Both will be converted to RCA and sent to the TVs. Curious how audio can be sent out of both these ports. Any advice would be great.
This should not be a problem if your adapters support audio (and show up as audio device).
Go to Audio Midi setup and create an aggregate audio device using the two adapters (as long as they support audio!) with a total of 4 channels and give it a name.
In Max place a Dac~ with 4 channels <dac~ 1 2 3 4>, in Audio status choose the device you previously named, then connect the first jit.movie~ to the first two channels and the other to the last two.
