I've seen faustgen~ referenced multiple times in this forum, but I'm struggling with something fairly basic: Where do I put .dsp files so faustgen~ can use them? Or where is the documentation about this for faustgen~ ?

I have Max7 installed on OSX-64, and I've downloaded faustgen-1.12 via 

https://sourceforge.net/projects/faudiostream/files/

So I can can run this command at the terminal

ls ~/Documents/Max\ 7/Library/faustgen~.mxo/Contents/

I can successfully create a faustgen~ block, but it always seems to do a pass-through of the input signal to the output signal, which is not the faust file I'm trying to invoke. I'd like to take the answer here and make some more easily accessible documentation for faustgen~.

It seems that the main way to use faustgen is that you 

1. Make a new faustgen block with an *IMPLICITLY* blank .dsp 'file' (I'm not sure where it gets' stored on disk)

3. Double click the block and select to 'Edit DSP code'

4. Copy + Paste the desired faust source code in to this new 'file'

I originally didn't have faustgen installed correctly, and couldn't see the wonderful help via the normal Max help methods, so I couldn't see this:
