Keys and sounds

Hello!

I'm very new to max msp and still learning through various tutorials the different functions of different objects in Max. I'm trying to make a very note very, basic keyboard guitar by just having audio files connected to a specific key ( keys 1-9) on my keyboard. I want to make the audio file play for as long as i'm pressing the key. I'm having trouble finding any tutorials on this. I want to trigger an audiofile with a specific keypress and play it only for the duration of time that the key is pressed in. If someone could help me find any tutorials that relates to this or help me with this i would be very gratefull.

Thank you from a Max 7 Newbie

Getting to know the software, using the documentation that actually comes with it and is easy to find, with even the most cursory search, is often how I start to learn new things. Search the above links for "playback", "sfplay~", "MIDI", "notein", "key" etc etc.

I'm of course going through the max tutorials and documentation though it seems i might accidentaly have gotten in to the tutorial documentation for Max 5 the first time. I don't know how much that differs from Version 7. I know how to activate a sound by a keypress but not how to make it only last as long as i'm pressing the key. Should i be looking at notein, key and MIDI? I have been going through these and most of the documentation and what comes closest to what i need is the keyup object. I have yet to figure out how to make it work in the way that i want it too though.

Thanks for linking me the proper tutorial!

Please ignore that last post, i did figure it out with a lot of facepalming afterwards. Again thank you for linking the proper tutorial. I'm excited to see what more i can do in Max!

There is a link somewhere in the documentation, that lists each Max-MSP-Jitter object by function, or by brief description of what it does. That's a great way to find something you know how to describe but don't don't yet know the name of.

For me by far the greatest resource is the object helpfiles (of course, you first have to know the name of the object). But at the bottom of the right hand window is a sub-panel called: See Also. Absolutely frikn indispensable !!

And whenever Max beginner tutorials are mentioned, this name often crops up:
