I use Ableton Suite to experiment with generative music. I saw the function to control Ableton via MaxForLive several times, but did not immediately see how I could use this practically. I also found it a bit overwhelming how to program this. 

After watching some tutorials I'm starting to understand what is possible. But I'm fairly new to programming with Max. So I would have liked to get some help and a push in using L.O.M.

I would like to make a patch where after a certain time has elapsed the "generate" knob in the generate tab of the clip view is triggered to create a new melody/rhythm. Who can help me with this?

I don’t believe that’s currently possible to do unfortunately. If you look through the LOM you can see everything that can be observed or controlled, as of now that’s not available. You can use elements of the LOM inside a miditool but not to control the miditool.
