Mac or Windows in 2020?

This is my first post here - so hi :)

I hope this topic is not too worn-out, but the only real debate about it I found in this forum is almost a decade old.

Since my 2016 Macbook Pro has massive hardware problems after less then four years of service, and after the experience of carrying around expensive and failing adapters, and being dismayed with Apple's increasingly poor customer support and their troubling business decisions (giving up on Intel CPUs being the last of them), I am contemplating switching back to Windows.

Max is one of the programs I worry most about when doing the plunge, considering stability, latency etc. I'm quite the beginner but have fallen deeply in love with Max, trying to learn it as thoroughly as I can, and am planning to use it for live performances in the future.

So how are the experiences working with Max under Windows 10 (Pro) in 2020? Utilizing, of course, a carefully chosen and well tuned machine with a decent interface (I use RME anyway) etc. I would be grateful about any input.

I'm a Mac fan (have owned a huge number of Macs, hardly ever used Windows), but yes: the 2016 machines were plagued with issues, not least the horrific keyboard design. If you looked at a Mac today it would be a better machine.

That said, for running Max, I really don't think there's much in it regarding macOS vs. Windows. You'll certainly get more performance bang for your buck with a Windows machine (at least while Macs are still on Intel chipsets). You may be troubleshooting a bit more, but that's a useful skill to have regardless. But do think about what other software you might want to run, and how well it's hosted on the two platforms.

Being Mac user from early days (1989), today I would go with
PC hardware.
And it is possible to install MacOS as well as Win10
on many Laptops.
Hackintosh on a PC is NOT forced to use mojave or catalina,
for Max 7 & 8 capitan or sierra/hsierra is perfectly allright.

For stage use, rather buy 2 good HP lattops instead of 1 MacBook
for about same price.

Thanks for all your input!

Concerning Hackintosh: I'm a bit suspicious about that one, the one big plus of Apple laptops being their integration of OS and hardware. I think I would trust a properly tuned Windows laptop more...

Change to Windows, you will not regret it : )
Cheap powerful hardware, an OS that is stable enough and honestly more fun than Mac.
There are really no drawbacks

What Windows configuration would you recommend to use the latest Max for jitter, GL, and audio?
