Max 7.2.3 released

We are happy to announce the release of Max 7.2.3.

The primary reason for this release is to remove the QuickTime requirement on Windows. There are a number of other fixes, especially in the video engine department, so be sure to read the fixed bug list below.

As always, you can download the new installers here:
https://cycling74.com/downloads/

This can be installed over your previous Max 7 installation, and will not affect installs of Max 6.x or lower. We hope you enjoy this new version of Max!

Thanks! With this last release all the odd stuff i use to get on my Win7 64bit machine went away!
No more strange bold characters, no more usual crash after Max quit.
Remove Quicktime dependencies is the cure!
many thanks and all the best

Thanks again, but I have to say, I have 7.2.1 working well, and it is the first version that has worked for over 18 months, and since then I discovered there is apparently no other versions of Max 7 archived on the site. I would like to try the new version, but I did not keep the 7.2.1 install files, so there is no way to roll back without using Windows restore points, and if you have any experience with that, you would understand the reticence. Please can you make v72.1 available for download again?

@ernest, I have no idea what you are referring to, but if you have problems with the latest version of Max, please drop Support an email. We can either solve your problems or get you an older install.

Ok, I will upgrade to 7.2.3, thank you for the reassurance.

Somewhat as expected, Max 7.2.3 crashes when I attempt to open the project which worked in 7.2.1. I am sending it to technical support.

Sorry for the multiple emails, but I was able to get 7.2.3 working by disabling the audio driver. After that, Max hung for several minutes, then suddenly came back to life, On enabling the audio driver it tried to set signal and vector size to 1, which accounts for the problem with initial hangs. After reapplying signal and vector sizes to 64, the build worked properly. Recommended to mute speakers during initial installation.

After that, gen~ made some weird noises it hadn't before due to a few params which had no explicit default values. After explicitly setting default values for all gen~ params, gen~ worked fine. A few externals which the project had added in red, and which I had been ignoring because the patch didn't need them anyway, finally disappeared. Thank you.

Still no msp audio support for VDDL? Hopefully this is something that can be solved soon.

Hi there, is there any recommended video codec for viddll? I've tested some random codecs, but i can't really say which one performs best. There seems no different between h264 and h265 for example.

I'm having problems with 7.2.3 as well. Several of my patches no longer work, and the Disis Munger object no longer loads.
I will roll back to 7.2.2, which was working well.

Not all MIDI ports are properly listed with 7.2.3, in particular my Launchpad Pro MIDIINx and MIDIOUTx are missing. In 7.2.1 they are properly shown, so I had to roll back.

Can someone tell me where to download 7.2.1? I am having serious issues trying to open session with 7.2.3.

Thanks.

The MIDI ports problem will be fixed in 7.2.4 - sorry about that

If you think that a newer version of Max is worse than an older one, please contact support so we can get to the bottom of the regression issue.

Cheers

Hi Andrew,

here is another problem with midi ports, will it also be fixed?

Ben Bracken's icon

@Broc, we are aware of this amxd~ device bug but do not have a timetable for when it might be fixed.

Gen: removed 256 MB limit for data

I still get the same message and problem:

warning: constraining [data] to < 256MB
