Max 8.6.0 and coreaudiod processus issue

Hello everyone,

Just updated Max to the latest version (8.6.0) and it seems that I have a new issue with Max and its collaboration with the macOS audio driver.

Every time the Max audio is on, the coreaudiod processus rises up to 100% of CPU usage (see the attached screenshot) and stays still until I shut Max audio off. I also experience some audio glitches from time to time. All of this is new, it was working perfectly fine with the previous version (Max 8.5) and the same patch.

Should I trash the Max preferences to begin with?

My system: Macbook pro M1 13" with macOS Monterey 12.7.2.

Thanks for your help,

Philippe.

Same patch with Max 8.5.7

Thanks for the report.

A few things that I'm curious about, in particular the use of Loopback. Trashing Max preferences sounds like a good start, but can you try quitting Loopback and other audio applications, rebooting and let us know if the problem persists.

It would also be helpful to know more about your audio settings, what devices are selected, et cetera.

Hello Joshua, it seems you have found the culprit ^^

I was sending the audio from Apple Music to Max with a 16ch Loopback device and was also sending the audio from Max to a 64ch Loopback device which was taking care of the physical outputs :

Apple Music ====Loopback===> Max ===Loopback===>Physical Outputs

It seems that selecting Loopback as the output device is not a good idea. I also appears that it is the one generating the audio glitchs.

I tried again with a 8.5.7 version of max and using Loopback as the output device also impacts the overall CPU usage!!

Loopback as input but NOT as output on 8.6.0
Loopback as input AND output on 8.6.0
Loopback as input but NOT as output on 8.5.7
Loopback as input AND output on 8.5.7

Everything's back to normal now, thank you for your help Joshua :)

Have a nice day.

Philippe.
