Max can't find the built in video content

Hi -
Just downloaded the new Max7 (trial) for Windows 64 bit.
Going through the "What's New" tour, and the videos don't play: they can't be found in the jit.playlist.
The playlist shows a sort-of greyed out video list of "built in content", but the max console says
"couldnt find name.mp4" when any of them are clicked.

I tried adding the path where all the content lives to File Preferences, but that doesn't help matters.
( That path is just the default directory where it was originally installed. On my system:
E:\PFILES\Cycling '74\Max 7\resources\media\jitter )

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
- lonce

hi lonce, you are experiencing the limitations of video playback on windows 64 bit. you have 2 options (for now), install the 32 bit version of Max 7, which can use quicktime for video playback, or download some media decoder components, thereby giving the 64 bit video engine the ability to playback some media files installed with Max.

if you are doing much work with video, i'd recommend you stick with the 32 bit version (for now).

otherwise, follow this link for instructions on enabling video playback on windows 64:

Thanks for your reply, Rob.
I will be teaching with Max again this upcoming semester, so it is good to know ahead of time what the issues are before having a class full of students encounter them!
Best,
- lonce

for windows 64 video support, you should check out the viddll-beta package, available via the Max 7.1 package manager.

Hello, I'm having exactly the same problem, I have ableton live 9 suite installed (64 bit) with max for live, If I reinstall max 7 at 32 bit will my max for live patches for ableton not work anymore? what are the limitations in this case ? Also do you know when this issue with the 64 bit version of max 7 might get fixed?

Thanks in advance

you can have both versions of Max installed, but you must also have the corresponding version of Live.

but please to check out the viddll package for 64 bit windows video support, described in the link above.
