Max for live devices - won't open in editor

Klangschmied's icon

I can’t open patches in the Max editor.
It will get stuck at "Starting Max Editor…". Also Max stays in the foreground, I have to quit Max 6.1.9 to use Live..

Configuration:
Ableton Live 9.1.7
M4L - licensed
Max 6.1.9
OSX Mavericks 10.9.5

- Checked the „hosts“ file
- Deleted the ‘Max 6 Preferences Folder’ @ ~/Library/Application Support/Cycling '74

No success.
Also contacted support from Ableton...still waiting for an answer.
Any hints appreciated.

It is solved. After all - permission repair, new install of Max, Live - installing the latest
ilok - software, now the max editor opens as usual.

Hi Thomas,
the problem still exists, sometimes "permission repair" helps for a short time.

I am having same problem. I click edit device/plugin and it says "Starting Max Editor…" and never opens the editor...

I have Ableton 9.5 (64bit)
Max For Live 7.0.6 (64bit)

Only thing I can think of is plugin was created in a previous version and doesnt like the new version?? I ended up just copying and pasted what I needed into a new patch/plugin and it started working.

Same for me.

Configuration
- OSX Yosemite 10.10.5
- Ableton Live 9.6.2 64 bits
- Max 7.3.1 64 bits

I can’t edit any patch with the editor
I have "Starting Max Editor", Max stays in the foreground and nothing happens.

I tried both options on Ableton website :
- repair the permission disk : done but nothing change
- delete Cycling74 folder in Library/Application Support/ : done but nothing change

I don't know what to do.
Any help ?

Has anyone found a solution to this? I'm having the same issue. With the newest versions of both Live and Max. I have the full version of max 7.3 and it works fine as a standalone.

Just to be sure (you'd be surprised at how often this happens), you are referring to versions of the Live Suite rather than Live by itself, I hope. Max for Live only works within the Live Suite.

If that's the case, we now return you to your regularly scheduled Forum posting thread.

Yes, I have Live 9.7 Suite.

Still not working.

Hi, I am also having the aforementioned problem with Max getting stuck on the "Starting Max Editor" and max for live devices simply don't work. They load the GUI in the rack but any menus are black, and, for example, the LFO device from the M4L essentials pack has a black box where the waveform should be diplayed, and if I try and interact with a knob on it it lags horribly.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
It's very very frustrating please help!

This is not true. M4L is now included in Live Suite (which was not the case before Live 9), but you can also use a Live Standard license + the M4L add-on bought separately.
