MaxMSP Jitter with VR
Hey, i'm looking to make a VR piece for my uni project, i already have some visual effects made with jitter & openGL, asking to see what advice people can give to getting max to work with VR (ill be using the oculus rift), what blocks i need to get it to work, are you able to use the hand controllers? I'm still fairly new to max and any help will be greatly appreciated.
You will want to have a look at the VR package available in the Max package manager. Beyond that, it's mostly working with 3D jitter objects.
And yes, the VR package will work with Oculus and hand controllers.
Note that it is not yet working for gl3, but hopefully that will be resolved soon.
Hi guys, any update on the VR package-gl3 compatibility in the new Max version? Thanks
May I hijack this thread slightly to ask if GL3 is generally stable enough (compared to GL2) for most Jitter programming?
Also, I've not been able to benchmark GL3 because of a couple of compatibility issues. Is GL3 faster/same/slower than GL2?
nothing new regarding VR - gl3 support, but thanks for the reminder.
chris rolfe, best to simply try it and see what results you get. gl3 is beta so there will be some kinks, but the new features may be worth it. The gl3 announcement post, along with the documentation and launcher patch all do a fairly decent job of describing the features and limitations. Searching the forum for gl3 will provide more info.
Makes sense. I can't actually test my own patcher yet but I ran V2 Jitter Benchmark. Seems ok.
My benchmark is added on that thread:

Hi. I tried to use the VR package and it does works, but it always crashes after turning it off/on again. Am I doing something wrong?
Is there something new regarding gl3 support for the VR package? It would be great to experiment with jit.gl.pbr, for instance. I tried but it seems to not work so far.
Thanks a lot, Rob. I will try it.
