MIDI (and such) Output to ASCII

Hi,

This is my first post, and I've only been using Max 7 for a few months now, so I'm still learning.

I recently learned how to use ASCII code to play the kslider (max 7's piano). But now I have a project in which I want to take the kslider to give out the ASCII designated ASCII key. What I'm looking to eventually do is assign different keys on a MIDI synth to an ASCII code, which will then trigger an assigned video clip.

Any ideas on how to do this?

like sel 33 -> bang message with ASCII code.
Only that I can't figure out why should one use ASCII values to trigger
something when midi note numbers can do it just as well...
