MIDI keyboard driven harmoniser as a Max patch?
Hi all,
I know this kind of vocal effect can be done with VoiceLive 2 or VoiceLive 3.
James Blake -Lindisfarne

Bon Iver - Woods lyrics

Imogen Heap - Hide And Seek

Is there a Max patch which enables you to do this?
You play MIDI keyboard as you sing, and the recorded vocal is harmonised corresponding to your MIDI input.
If it’s better to make one by myself, could you kindly give me a clue for a starting point (basic concept, or core Max objects)?
Many thanks for your help in advance,
Masa
Looking for a Vocoder? Check out Georgio Moroder & listen to analog vocoders. You'll even find kind of an emulation of a Moog vocoder in the Max Examples.
Thank you for your reply. To me, this application sounds different from traditional vocoder. Not 100% sure though, but it sounds less synthesiser-taste. My wild guess is that it relates to realtime pitch shift and realtime formant adjusting.
OK, I had just listened to James Blake, the Vocoder example. Bon Iver & Imogen Heap use auto-tuning, sometimes on several different voices actually sung (not always the same voice pitch-shifted). Check out the objects [pitchshift~] and [retune~] in Max 7.
I wrote the rubberband~ external (https://cycling74.com/forums/some-utility-externals-rubberband-noteid-chordid/) for this very purpose - live harmonies by pitchshifting with vocal formant preservation. The other externals assist by identifying the note and finding a chord (from a guitar, primarily) to compute the appropriate harmony. I have some javascript that computes the harmonies (lower , low, high, higher) from the chord and input note.
If you are wanting to use midi to control your harmonies J74 Harmotools (http://fabriziopoce.com/HarmoTools.html) does chord identification from midi input.
Dear JEAN-FRANCOIS CHARLES,
Thanks a lot! I will start experimenting with the objects...!
Dear SIMON BLAKELY,
Wow, they seem great. Thank you so much. I shouldn't have bought a VoiceLive...! I will come back to this topic after experimenting with them.
Hi, I've tried to download the 2 links kindly provided by Simon Blakely, but they doesn't work.
Could be possible to re-link the pages?
Thanks a lot.
