midiin & midiout inside a M4L device?

I have just found that midiin & midiout objects don't work when used inside an M4L device (work fine in Max standalone though). I need them to work because I can't use the standard midi input/ouput inside a M4L midi device (basically I don't want Ableton to record midi for a particular hardware synth).

The workaround I am using is to add an external standalone Max device that does the midi in/out and communicate with the M4L device using udp/OSC, which is not very ideal.

Would be possible to make midiin & midiout objects working even inside an M4L device? Or is there any other way to do this without using an external Max standalone device?
