Mira for Windows
It's here! Now you can force your Windows devices to talk to your Mac devices, even if they don't want to. Oh, and you get umenu, swatch and live.grid too. Let me know if you run into trouble.
That's great news !
I've installed Max 6.1.4 on Windows 8 Pro 32 bits (Dutch), then I ran the setup for the Mira 1.1.4. package. It appears to work without any further ado.
The Windows beta of Mira for Windows worked for me before, except for fpic. But it wasn't stable. I can't say yet if Mira is stable now.
The new umenu, live.grid and swatch are all working and fpic is fixed. I was able to crash Mira when I switched one 4 Mb photograph for another in fpic. Switching smaller pictures works fine. My 3000 x 4000 pixel .JPG pictures scale down nicely and don't look ragged.
Thanks Sam. Please continue to improve on Mira!
Cheers,
Xanadu.
Will it run on win XP?
That would be sweet.
Yesss! Umenu was really important to me. Thanks a lot for including it! And Windows is great, too, as I just switched to a PC for my main DAW in the studio. (Not happy with the mac pro announcement ... :-)
However, there doesn't seem to taken care of this problem I mentioned:
https://cycling74.com/forums/how-do-i-get-live-tabs-to-have-a-good-size/
Or is there anything I was missing within the new features, that could make it possible to create a radio multi-pad like object with the new features?

okay i got the app anyway...aand it works on win XP.
i have connected the ipad via "mywi",an app for wired connection.
when dropping a "mira.frame",a connection to a "max server" will be established.
works relatively ok when running max6 standalone,
relatively meaning some crashes (for example when moving around "mira.frame")but it works.
now the m4l-part::
extremly buggy,folx.
what happens is that when opening the edit-window,mira establishes a second max-server,
sometimes it opens a second tab,but it crashes LIVE or MAX almost all the time.
sonmetimes it does work,i got the impression its connected to whether max is already running
when you open the m4l-editor,but i didnt find any workaround so far that did the job.
PLEASE get this m4l-part up and running.
@friflo make sure you update to 6.1.4, there is some improvement to make sure that live.tab number of columns/rows is properly respected on Mira.
@giovanni check this out.
@xanadu Thanks for the report. I'll take a look at this "switching giant files" crash.
@RBRT: I Can't reproduce this behaviour on Windows 8. Both servers are working ok.
1. Did you try a hardware WiFi router for the connections?
2. When I first installed Mira for Windows Beta I had some strange crashes. This was solved after I did a complete fresh installation of the whole Max application.
@Sam: (A bit off-topic)
When opening the edit window on a MFL patch, Mira starts showing two views on the same patch, from the two different servers.
1. The screen that is connected to the patch that is embedded in Live is responding to my touches on the iPad, but the Live patcher is not reponsive in any way.
2. The Max 6 edit screen is active and responds correctly to touches.
I would like to see the active mira.screen only. Showing the screen from the inactive server is confusing.
@xanadu That, unfortunately, is just kind of the way it is for now. We'll get the M4L experience to be silkier soon, but that annoying two-frame thing is the reality for the time being.
I steadfastly remain diametrically opposed to the early-adopter ethos, but. You guys are really making it increasingly difficult to resist the temptation of Mira. Really difficult!!
thank you very much Emmanuel
merci beaucoup Emmanuel
mille grazie Emmanuel
Installed Max 6.1.4, installed new Mira package 1.1.4 for windows. Running windows 8.1. Live 9.0.6. All in 64bit.
Updated iPad Mira app to latest.
Connecting sees my DAW on the next work and recognizes that Max is running and a Miraframe is open. Tries to connect and returns error "Could not connect to Server LittleRed Error 70007, The operation couldn't be completed. (Posix error 70007 - unknown error).
This was a working connection with the beta software and previous version of Mira App. Tried restarting Live and Max. Tried restarting Mira app, and entire iPad. Same results. any suggestions?
Hi @starakaj et al. great for the new version, fpic works great..!
BUT, i've noticed a lower efficiency. I mean, the net traffic works slower than previous version.
Anything I could try?
bests
Carlos
@carlos that's really strange. If anything, network traffic should be faster.
Are you noticing this problem with any objects in particular? Even better question, are you noticing latency or a reduction in frequency? As in, do updates look more jagged?
Hi, thanks for your replay!, yes, thats it, ... like much more latency.
(...though i'm still in ios 6 at my ipad, maybe I should move to ios 7?)
@carlos Huh, that's strange. I might hold off on the update to 7, as this seems to be causing a problem for some people. But I can't explain the increased latency. Are you noticing it with any objects in particular? And in which direction?
No objects in particular (i've noticed the most with gain~ and numbers boxes), … my patches seem to be delayed (latency) FROM Mac TO iPad (not inverse), i mean: (Its quite weird) I press in my iPad and the response is immediate at MaxMSP, BUT the refreshing (GUI) response at MIRA is delayed.
..about 500 milliseconds.
By the way, replacing the previous mira.frame.mxo works a little faster (and fcpic works fine) BUT Xebra massive messages came back. The worst and annoying is the sound fragmentation because of the response of gain~.
I am having the same problem as DLWHITE. No problem in the past. Now getting Error 70007. Checked firewall and created a new ad hoc network to no avail.
Reinstalled 1.1.4 and then everything worked fine with Windows 7 64 bit.
What about in windows 8.1? Will it work?
"Now you can force your Windows devices to talk to your Mac devices, even if they don’t want to. "
So what you mean to say my Apple devices, right? Because I cannot see any reference that it makes macs and pc communicate easier. Or am I wrong?
Reinstalled 1.1.4 and still having this problem. I see at least one other person is seeing the same problem. help? Is this an windows 8.1 problem?
Installed Max 6.1.4, installed new Mira package 1.1.4 for windows. Running windows 8.1. Live 9.0.6. All in 64bit.
Connecting sees my DAW on the next work and recognizes that Max is running and a Miraframe is open. Tries to connect and returns error “Could not connect to Server LittleRed Error 70007, The operation couldn’t be completed. (Posix error 70007 – unknown error).
This was a working connection with the beta software and previous version of Mira App. Tried restarting Live and Max. Tried restarting Mira app, and entire iPad. Same results. any suggestions?
On win 8.1. I just re-downloaded the Mira package zip and now the iPad app is saying I have a version mis-match (1.1.6 required, 1.1.4 installed). So I'm assuming you haven't posted the 1.1.6 package yet. Hopefully that will solve this. It's getting pretty old to have paid $50 (several?) months ago and still not be able to use it for anything.
Big apologies for all these hassles, and thanks for letting us know your experience. We will be working hard to solve these problems. The 1.1.6 package links are now updated.
Please let us know if you are still experiencing issues with the 1.1.6 package and app. There may be some Windows 8.1 specific issues. We will continue to investigate.
Another thing to check in addition to adhoc network and/or firewall settings is any Bonjour version and compatibility issues that might be present.
According to this Microsoft page, there are some users who are having Bonjour troubles but overall, the majority seem to think that Bonjour 3 is working well under 8.1.
However, I can't find a direct download for Bonjour v3. I believe the only way to get it may be to install iTunes for Windows, though I may be mistaken. The only Bonjour installer I can find on Apple's web site is v2.0.2.
So if you are still having problems and can report your Bonjour version installed, that would also be of interest so we can try to establish a pattern for those who are still experiencing this problem. For most people and us internally, these problems have disappeared.
Thanks again for your patience and feedback.
