Sometimes when I CTRL+Click to switch into or out of edit mode, a tiny box appears in the corner of the patch and hovering over a seemingly random area of the patch turns the mouse pointer from an arrow to an open hand. If I click and drag with the hand, it moves the little box around.

It sometimes makes it impossible to move objects around in the window.

I can't figure out what it causing this to happen or how to consistently set things back to a normal state (i.e. no hand pointer, no tiny box).

Does anyone know what I might be doing to cause this?

The cause seems to be dragging the mouse across an empty part of the canvas, while holding ctrl and the left mouse button down.  I'm still not clear what it is doing or how to undo it.  The documentation doesn't seem mention the hand cursor, that I can find.

I sometimes have the same issue but i have no idea on how or why this exactly happens. Clicking the "box" in the upper-left (apparently) resolves it so the patch behaves normal again and the box disappears. 

I noticed this occurs when i'm using shortcuts a lot and sometimes mess up the order in which i press the keys or just simply press the wrong keys so i have to repeat the input (i think). That is a bit vague but all i got because it doesn't that happen often. I was puzzled the first time it happened though
