Need help recovering old max/msp 4.5 patches from .mxf
I need help making an editable copy of a couple old standalone mac apps I made in 2005 and 2007. One is a sequencer for my Korg Kaos Pad2 and the other juggles audio stutters between two buffers with gizmo~ in between. I could probably repatch these but there's some sort of nostalgia for me about getting into the original file. I might also find some max patching techniques I have forgotten. If they are still fun I might turn them into max for live patches. I just recently upgraded from 4.5 to 7 and have been trying to reorganize anything useful from years past. I believe I have read most of the posts on this topic. These are very obviously my own patches as the have my name and date on them. I have tried looking at the hex of the .mxf as suggested in other posts, but I'm not successfully finding the meat of the patch. If you can help me you are welcome to anything useful in the patch and/or to suggest some other price. I can post them here or send them privately. Not sure if I'm asking for 10 minutes or 10 hours here; I've read posts that suggest both. These are probably not worth 10 hours.
It is a 2 minutes job...
If You open mxf file with hexedit or similar tool,
remove the first 16 hex numbers
and paste rest of the code into blank max patch (4.6)
using same hexeditor.
Use .mxb or .pat extension.
After opening that file with max and resaving it,
all embeded externals etc will be removed, and You have max patch.
This procedure is needed for max 4.6 mxf conversion. Max 5 and later mxf can just be renamed from mxf to maxpat, after the first part of code is removed, You can do it even with text edit.
Same applies to amxd files.
Now that is so easy, and many users have complained about no protection
for standalones...
As long as cycling does not care, I don't either...
Thank you for your kind and clear help! I was successfully able to convert the collectives. I used Hex Fiend for the Hex editor. Here's the Kaos pad seq in colective and maxpat form. If anyone is interested in the other let me know. Its has a title that's a bit NSFW, so just to keep it G rated I'll share that one on an individual basis.
