Need some help with the Kinect via Synapse

    Hi all,
I just bought a Xbox 360 Kinect Sensor as to use with Max for my composition project, but after I opened the Synapse it will run for a bit and suddenly the screen will freeze and Synapse turn itself off.
I'm on the Mac OSX 10.7.5 with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 4 GB Memory
    Regards, Achittapol Tinnarat

there are two series of kinect sensors , should check the serialnumber at the bottom the newer version does not work well
1414 is good ,1473 is bad try to switch it in the store

Thanks, mine is 1473. Will try to switch at the store, but I don't think they will allow me to do that.

you may try using jit.openni instead of Synapse it's a Max external which allows you to access the Kinect directly inside Max.
The learning curve may be a bit steeper, but it's a really great external.

      for software /driver part i recommend ni-mate
i used synapse and jit.freenectgrab before but ni-mate works best for me

MJ, could you explain a bit more about ni-mate drivers for max/msp usage? I`m not sure if I am in the right website:
I have just get a 1473 kinect and I`m trying to make it work.
      for software /driver part i recommend ni-mate
What other parts shoulb be necessary to get kinect working inside max/msp? thanks

I'm not sure if you have already figured this out? Once NI-Mate is running, under the MIDI controller tab, you just need to select "to MAXMSP 1" or 2 to get the MIDI data into Max. For the OSC data you would set the IP address and UDP port to something and use this in the udpreceive object in Max.
      I hope this helps.
