Newbie Question: Using playlist~ / sending bangs to input
Hello!
I'm just starting out with Max and finding it a wee bit daunting. I'm trying to do something quite simple. I have audio files that I need to trigger live whilst amplifying a solo instrument. When I trigger an audio file to start, I want to send a bang to close a gate on the input volume for the performer (so in effect they're silent during the audio clips). I then want the gate to reopen at exactly the same time that the audio clip ends, and probably to be scaled to avoid any pops or clicks when the input turns back on. Can I do this whilst using playlist~ for the audio files or will I have to use something like buffer~ and groove~?
Attached what I have so far.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
Buffer and groove are probably going to be the best at least in terms of control. Heres a quick patch where you can load all your audio files using polybuffer, reference them with separate groove objects, and get a bang when it reaches the end of the loop (by default the loop length is the whole file and will trigger even if looping is disabled). Definitely look into using line~ with a very short ramp time to change the amplitude of the signals so that it doesnt create pops. Also, in max's edit menu, there is an option called copy compressed. it will copy just the selected objects and you can paste them into the forums very cleanly and is easy for others to copy and open from clipboard. good luck!
Thanks so much! I'll have a play and then reply with results / any issues I have.
this works great with signal~ output from playlist too.
