[100% solved] leapmotion external will not install
Yeah, so I just got a Leapmotion (late to the party, AGAIN), and I'm having some trouble finding 101-type tutorials. All I can find is "download the SDK, edit this file, put in this folder, rename it, reboot your entire life, add this library, delete the .config file, learn all Java.
I was hoping for a slightly more transparent and accessible way to plug it in, grab the OSC and map it to Max/PD/SC, even via Processing would do. Via OSX/Windoze/Fedora is fine. What's YOUR preference?
Brendan
I've been trawling the forum all morning:
https://forge.ircam.fr/p/leapmotion/
Please rank and rate your favourite leapmotion external, based on ease, transparency and, well, ease.
;)
nvm
AeroMIDI, ManOSC, Processing etc. Sorted
ircam's leapmotion is best in the terms you've described above (if you still want to include maxmsp ofc)
i use leapformax, more complex on install, but more customizable, and maybe more efficient
Hey vichug,thanks
Any tips (guides) available for installing leapformax (Windoze)? Installation does look quite precarious . . .
I'll have a try with leapformax (ircam is Mac only), and get back only if there are problems
thx
Install the v2 software from the website: https://www.leapmotion.com/setup
Install this Max external: https://www.julesfrancoise.com/leapmotion/
Hi Pedro, thanks for the tip but I have tried this and cannot get Max to see the leapmotion external. I downloaded and unzipped, placing all the files (leapmotion_for_max_master) inside the "externals" folder; autocomplete in Max only offers [leapmotion.play] and leapmotion.record]. I keep getting "leapmotion: no such object", even though I can open the helpfiles.
Max7 Win10 LeapV2 (not Orion)
Sigh. [not solved]
After several attempts, removing all traces and reinstalling to default folder name, in the externals folder, I can confirm that this is not user error. The external called [leapmotion] is "no such object"

Sorry, it seems the download link now refers to github and there's no compiled version in the main page, but if you click on releases, there's a compiled version for Windows and for Mac.

Pedro, once again many thanks - you're a gentleman! I confirm that the download file linked immediately above works. Note: there's a .dll file in the unzipped folder (x64/86) that must be copied into \Cycling '74\Max 7\resources\support, for it to work.
Yay.
I know this is an old thread, but any clue on how to install this on Windows 10 machine for Max 8. The Max7/resources/support folder does not exist. I normally work on a Mac and I have a student trying to install this on a Windows machine. Thanks .
