This Wednesday, Sam Tarakajian (www.otherbirds.com), former principal mobile developer of Cycling '74 and creator of the Delicious Max Tutorials YouTube video channel, will lead the first of four intimate introductory Max MSP/Jitter classes at DCTV. Alter your visuals with sensors, audio, and other control data with Max MSP/Jitter. By learning this specific visual programming tool, you can explore interactive filmmaking that includes live projections and multi-channel exhibition. With Max MSP/Jitter, your project can emerge out of the black box theatre, imagine different environments, and invite audiences to interact with your story. Combine cinematic grammar with this powerful computational toolbox for different live-viewing experiences!
DCTV is a home-base dedicated to cultivating and supporting an expanding community of aspiring, emerging and established filmmakers. Independent filmmaking is an ever-evolving craft that requires storytellers to be up to date on the latest technology and techniques. Our workshops provide people from all walks of life access to the skills they need to make media and tell their story. Offering over 150 affordable, hands-on workshops each year in all aspects of digital filmmaking and media arts, from basic video production to advanced editing to web design and motion graphics, DCTV is a one-of-a-kind training facility that offers practical knowledge to everyone.

Note: This is not a computer engineering workshop. Some knowledge of logical arrangements is an asset.
Materials: All you need to bring is yourself! Each participant will be equipped with a 27-inch iMac with 5K retina display running Cycling '74 Max 7.1. Personal equipment is not permitted. Curriculum will be provided on eReaders during the workshop.
INSTRUCTOR BIO
Sam Tarakajian is a Brooklyn-based developer and musician. He has worked at Apple, Cycling ’74 and the New York Public Library. His work centers around interface design for musical and creative tools. A recent project, the Rhythm Necklace app for iOS, lets the user create complex polyrhythms by touching and tweaking geometric shapes. Occasionally, his love for Max/MSP bubbles over into a YouTube video for the Delicious Max tutorial series.
