I'm trying to wrap my head around how to use poly with triggers that are not necessarily midi. I want to build a patch that plays random parts of a sample with an envelope but doesn't cut the end of a sample when a new one is playing. I'm using the midinote message to trigger poly. What am I doing wrong?

poly~-only-plays-voice-1-and-skips-all-the-others

You have to specify the voice with the "target" message.. It is explained in the poly~'s reference page.
