Problems sharing standalone
I'm trying to share a (Mac) standalone .
If I zip it and unarchive it on my Mac, it works, as you would expect, but if I upload to Dropbox, Sendspace or WeTransfer, and download it again the file reports as being damaged and will not open. This is happening on both my MacPro and my Macbook.
I've tried uploading it already zipped, or not - WeTransfer and Sendspace automatically zip it anyway - with the same result.
I have tried re-compiling the app and re-zipping it etc. etc. Nowt.
Any idea what's going on, or how else I can share it?
Seriously, what is going on here?
Even if I make a disc image of the folder, upload it to Dropbox, download again to a local drive and open the thing, I get the same shit - "file is damaged and can't be opened"...
I've been at this all day now - what am I missing!?
OK, so it's due to overactive System security, and enabling 'Download from anywhere' in security prefs gets round this silliness, but am I right in thinking that the 'anywhere' option is no longer availabe in Sierra, in which case, I can only share with pre-Sierra users?
same problem here right now. if anyone knows a solution I'd love to hear it.

i tried this and it worked at least on 10.13.4 in may 2019.... with a tiny twist - see 3):
1) terminal: sudo spctl --master-disable
1.1) confirm with password
2) sys prefs > security & privacy
3) unlock and change from Anywhere to whatever and back so you need to explicitly confirm Anywhere !!!!!
4) only then download and unzip
5) run the app before changing security back
6) terminal: sudo spctl --master-enable
6.1) confirm with password
Thanks - didn't work for me here, unfortunately, on 10.13.6. There's no option for 'Anywhere' in the security prefs - I thought this was something they removed several OS versions ago, no?
There have been a few other threads relating to this since, and it appears there's no end to the kind of Hell Apple wants to put us through in the name of security - and more on the way too...
This is such a bummer. For me, Max was the missing link to being able to do actual programming, but now I'm stumped at the last fence (to mix metaphors).
So embarrassing too - I have a group of over 100 people interested in the app, and afaict not one of them are able to launch it now...
are you sure you made no mistake? try again. it's working on 10.13.4 but not 10.13.6? that's very unlikely.
only after "sudo spctl --master-disable" in the terminal the third option appears in sys prefs > security & privacy > general. does this not happen for you?
these 100 people all have 10.13 or higher?
This has been explained several times on the forums.
I don't like to repeat allways the same stuff...

Pure, thanks I'll try again, but I didn't get any error messages in the terminal...
Source Audio,
yes, I've seen the other threads, but so far, there doesn't seem to be anything definitive, and crucially, what I really don't want is to have to ask users to jump through hoops to simply get an app working.
It may not be much to you and me, but the end users are musicians who may not be comfortable disabling system protection etc.
So, whilst it may be a temporary fix (if/when people can get it working, which may depend on which OS version the user has), a fix needs to be found for that doesn't require workarounds on behalf of the end user.
Nope - ran the terminal command again, but still no 'Anywhere' in my Security prefs - see attached...

:(
did the terminal ask you for your password after the command? if not this seems suspicious.
Ah! I had the Security prefs window open when I ran Terminal - you have to close the the window and reopen it before the Anywhere appears!
Awesome. I can open the app now, and I can tell my beta testers what to do.
However, there's still a lot to do before I'll be able to get the thing on the App Store, as I'm currently unable to get past the "is already signed" error when I try to sign it...
Thanks for your persistence.
cool. one step a time...
Roger, I understand completely the problem dealing with end users
and expecting them to do some "extra" work just to get one app running.
That anyway should not be our job , max developers should actually
get it sorted.
As long as that is not the case, one has to look for solutions.
I am in a better position because I don't make any "public" software,
but deal with customers which get customised operating system along with
software for dedicated use from me, so everything is under control.
