Question about MAX6 and Ableton live 8.3.4

Dear all,
I am loving Max for live (well sometimes I get frustation in programming M4L but anyway!).

I am thinking of buying MAX6 and I wonder if:
- MAX6 works with Ableton live 8.3.4 ? and especially with Ableton live 64 bits?
- if I have MAX6, I will be able to continue to develop application for Ableton Live (M4L) for Ableton live 8 or shall I need Ableton Live 9?

in other words:
- eventough I have MAX6, shall I need to buy the Max for Live extension?
- to enjoy MAX6 do I need ableton live VERSION 9?

sorry if my questions are unclear or out of scope...
thanks for your help!

I think I got my answer on the FAQ of MAX6/M4L in the homepage of cycling ;-)
Hum.. I am very hesitating as I would like ableton live 9 and MAX6 (to make stand alone application)...

If you own MFL for Live 8 and Max 6 licenses, you can use Max 6 as the MFL editor in Live 8. The standard MFL license for Live 8 uses Max 5 as the editor.

Live 9 requires Max 6.1 as the editor. If you buy MFL for Live 9 you'll use Max 6.1 to edit.

In both cases, in order to make a standalone app, you'll need a Max 6 license - which will give you both Max 6 and Max 6.1

Cheers

Another question ;-)

If I buy MAX6 full licence and I create a stand alone patch (music one), is my patch going to be recognized by Ableton live as a VST plug in?

Thanks!

No, As far as I know, standalones aren't thought to be used within Ableton (they're like normal, independetn Apps).
In Ableton you'll use "Max Devices", either "instrument" or "effect" ones. Their file extensions is .amxd

LSka is right, standalones are just... standalones. You could still open them and route them through rewire or soundflower into Live.

oki, I see...
Thanks!

Ps: I am really wondering if I will go or not for Live9 ... I guess yes, most probably (not PUSH).. but my heart is really in between going for Ableton live suite 8 + Max6 or Ableton Live suite 9 only; that includes M4L or shall we call it M6L ;-) .

anyhow my decision will depend on what I want to acheive.
Thanks again for your clarification.

Hello, I've made a jitter M4L visual patch in ableton live 8 and Max 5 to compliment my music, im trying to run the visual patch off a friends computer so mine doesnt crash.
He has the new ableton 9 and the m4l that comes with it, but my patch doesnt seem to be opening.
Is there some sort of compatibility issues or just poor patching :P ?
