I'm using a flow of data from coll to affect the amplitude of an audio file. If I bang the data out very fast I get some clicks as it goes up/down. If I slow it down I hear steps instead. 

I could reduce the gain to try to eliminate clicks. 

But is there a way of ramping this data flow to make it smoother? I have tried the line object, but it's not helping. (I've put 1. 20. as float arguments.)

nope, you´d use the [line~] signal object, which is perfect for that because it does both things in one job: converts the number to a signal, then creates a ramp.

Unfortunately I am not able to make it work. 

I am outputting from the line~ as you suggest above (with the [pack 0.25.]) to gain, as before, but nothing is coming through.

I have tried to livegain, scaling within the db range. This shows a jumping of values, but I cannot make it go further to do what I want it to.

This flow of values is intended the amplitude of a wav (the two signals are combined in a gain object).

I am attaching the patch, perhaps it is more transparent this way. 

One of the streams from the coll is working in the original stepped way. I've tried to implement your suggestion on the other stream.

When you are using line~ you don't need gain~ - use *~ instead:
