Recording to MIDI clips or arrangement view with a M4L patch

Hi everyone,

I am rather new to max, and I have a problem with my patch. I have been looking on the forum for a solution and I am sorry if the subject was already raised (don't hesitate to redirect me there in that case).

My problem is that I play MIDI notes on a MIDI instrument through a M4K patch in ableton, but it does not record anything to MIDI clips or arrangement view. The problem sounds so simple that I fear I am missing something really obvious !

I have been trying to use the [makenote]+[noteout] objects, and also [seq]+[midiout] [objects].

Does anyone have a suggestion ?

Best regards,
Nicolas

Live can record MIDI notes only if they arrive as track input. So you need to create another MIDI track and route the generated notes to it using the 'MIDI From' menu.

Hello Broc,
thank you very much for your answer. Ii still doesn't work for me though.
As I am referring to the Max help, after setting the MIDI imput to either "from Max 1" or '"from Max 2", in need to :

"Double-click on any Max MIDI output object (noteout, midiout, ctlout, etc.) you’re using as an MIDI output in your patch and select the source you set for MIDI input in your other application (either “from Max 1” or “from Max 2”) from the pop-up menu as the MIDI output source."

But nothing happens as I double click...

So I have no idea were I am wrong. I can hear the notes. It should work with noteout right ?

Best,
Nicolas

The 'MIDI From' menu is in the In/Out section of Live tracks (see manual).

Yes yes I know, that's were I did set the the MIDI imput to "from Max A" or "from Max 2", but it still does not work. I must be blind at some point...
Thanks again.

MIDI input must be set to the track name where the notes are generated (submenu "Post FX").

Thank you very much Broc it works now, the problem was that I need to create two tracks (one for Max, on for the instrument), as you mentioned earlier.
