Recovering Externals /// MsPinky
Hello
My last update to 8.6 seems to have written over my externals folder meaning I’ve lost a few very important externals. The mptcfs_sa~ from MsPinky is now missing and judging by the lack of communication from them, it seems they are no longer in operation and I don’t have a back up anywhere. Is there a way to recover historical externals, are they living somewhere out of site on my computer that I’m missing
Thanks
Eoin
try some data recovery software
Hi Eoin
Did you manage to recover the MsPinky externals?
I want to find the externals/patches for MsPinky but really struggling. Like you say Ms Pinky appear to be no longer operating but I'm hoping to find a bunch of people out there who still want to use timecode vinyl with Live. Are there any other alternatives using Serato/Traktor vinyl with Live?? I don't have Ms Pinky vinyl and the only copy i could find is going for a $99.99 on Discogs!
Thanks
Mike
Hi Mike
I didn’t unfortunately, I tried some recovery software but to no avail. I am hoping someone may see this and be willing to share the external. It’s a real shame, I can’t access my old repository on their site either.
Eoin
Argh! What a shame! Have you found a workaround solution?
Despite very limited code experience I'm embarking on creating my own Max patch to implement into Live that is based on an old bit of code - vb.vinylcontrol~.mxo but currently only works on the intel mac architecture.

I was exploring FluidCorpus stuff and there are some really useful tools in there. I didn’t really use MsPinky system for timestamps or precise location, all I really need is direction (can get it from phase) and pitch. There are also some other tools out there, I’ll pass them on when close to my computer again but maybe we could work on something together
Eoin
Thanks Eoin that's great thank you and happy to collab! Where are you based? I'm based at Goldsmiths Uni, London.
I don't know much about FluidCorpus but understand it's purpose is for machine learning/listening and signal decomposition. I would be interested to see it work in practice and how you use it.
What platform(s) are you using?

Hey Mike
Sorry for delay in getting back, yeh I haven't dug into FluidCorpus but it could be really interesting to use and may be useful for pitch analysis and other bits. I use a few bits and bobs so hopefully we can work something out. Here is an older video of the MsPinky stuff I used to use, this patch also contains Csound workflows but I've also had issues with the external too recently, maybe it's a sign :)
Hey Eoin
No worries it's a busy time of year with festivals etc! Thanks for the vid. great work. I'd like to see what you've got going on in that patch. Is it only for MsPinky vinyl? The vb.vinylcontrol~.mxo can use Serato or Traktor vinyl which is useful. My main intent is to control midi within Live using pitch and location with vinyl although i could be tempted to use other platter based controllers. I have used other alternative controllers in the past such as Gametrak for this purpose but prefer the feel of my Technics 1210s. I would be very interested to see if FluidCorpus has the answer to our problems and if it can be utilised with Max, SuperCollider or PD.
There was a good supercollider external out there that allowed for control over patches using timecode but it has since been discontinued. I got in touch with the developer but that was a few years ago.
Yes that patch was just for pinky but it incorporated some Jitter for control of video too. If I get any break throughs or a chance to work on the patch, I'll pass it on
Thanks
