Running Max 7 as a rewire master, Ableton Live 9 as a rewire slave
I am trying to do the above using the rewire~ object but have gotten it to work randomly. Sometimes there will be an option on the rewire~ object dropdown that will let me choose Ableton Live, but most of the time is just says Max 6 and Max 7. I need to make it so that Ableton Live option is always there but I do not know how. It seems that Max 7 does not see Ableton Live as a rewire slave option, but I am not sure. How I start my applications:
1) Open Max 7
2) Go to rewire~ dropdown (select Ableton Live if available - it usually is not)
*following steps if Ableton Live selected
3) open up ableotn live
4) application works as designed
The above steps used to work, but now does not. I just want to run Ableton Live 9.1.5 as a slave to Max MSP using the rewire~ object.
Please let us know what operating system (Windows or OS X) and version (Windows 7, 8, 10 or OSX version) is leading to this behavior
What version of Live is installed?
Is Live installed in the standard location?
Are Live 32 bit and Live 64 bit both installed (this is unusual)?
Both Max and Live need to be running the same architecture (32 or 64 bit) for ReWire to work. Under OS X Max can run in 64 bit or 32 bit mode. The current architecture for both Live and Max can be seen when selecting "About [App Name]" from the app menu bar dropdown.
If the apps' architecture does not match, and this is OSX try this:
go o to the Max App install location, select the app and hit command + I. In the info pane there is a tick box to have Max launch in 32 bit mode.
In my test under OSX when I opened Max in 32 bit mode the rewire~ object did not detect my 64bit Live installation, and Live was not populated in the umenu.
