Running Max 7 on Linux using Wine?
Can it be done? I tried searching online but couldn't find a definitive answer. I have a Windows/Linux Mint dual boot, but I'd really prefer not having to switch, as Max is the only reason I ever use my Windows boot. I mostly just use Max to fiddle around, no huge patches or anything. Is it possible to run it decently on Linux using Wine?
Sorry for the delayed response. I checked out of the max forums for quite a while due to the fact that Max 7 does not run well under wine, and therefore I stopped using it in favor of Puredata, as I went digitally vegan and switched everything I do to linux. The last time I checked which was a couple months ago as of the time of this writing, the later versions of max 7 and wine staging were very much improved over previous versions, however that unfortunately does not say much, as full versions of max will still crash as soon as you start patching, only now you can at least see the contents of the patch window as it crashes. lol. Of anyone I know, I tried like hell to get this working... but for some reason, it just won't. From what I gather, it's due to some of max's internal libraries that dont play nice with wine, as I could not pinpoint which dependencies or windows libraries were causing the issue. I am hoping max 8 comes correct with this issue, as while puredata is cool... i do miss max for its ease of UI creation. As it stands, you can run standalone patches in runtime mode under linux, however anything with umenu will crash it instantly upon clicking the menu. other than that it works somewhat stabily. Thats the best youll get for now, i'm afraid...
