Hi, I created my first patch in Max, but when I went to save it, it asked me to sign up for the trial version of Max. I thought with Max for Live I could create, edit and save patches. What am I missing here?

Hi, I created my first patch in Max, but when I went to save it, it asked me to sign up for the trial version of Max.

It is a little complicated. You need to open Live, put any M4L device onto a track and click the edit button. Max will then recognize your Ableton license. Sadly this needs to be done ever time when reopening Max.

Ah, thank you. That explains how it did seem to recognise the license later.
