scope~ not working

The scope~ object has recently stopped working for me. The display is completely blank except for the grid, even in the help file. It does work in automatic mode, but as far as I can tell not with any other configuration. Trigger and buffer settings have no effect. Is anyone else experiencing this?

check all parameters in inspector.
remove any styles, and toggle foreground color few times
could be that simple

I’ve already tried that. The image I posted is the help file with default settings. As you can see, the trace is simply not showing up except in automatic mode.

Turns out my Max installation had become corrupted. I tried a clean reinstall of Max, and this issue has been resolved. In case anyone else has had this problem pop up recently, I was also having trouble with looping playback with the playlist~ and sfplay~ objects as well as js editor windows simply refusing to open. All of these issues have been resolved after following the instructions here.

I just had the same problem, scope~ displayed nothing but the grid. It was the same on two separate Macs (an Intel and an M1). Un/Re-installing did not solve the problem.

With a little experimentation I did discover a work around and perhaps those with more experience can explain this to me. This is the first time I have used Max since 1993 and there was no MSP back then.

The scopes work so long as the patch includes an ezdac object that is turned on. It doesn't have to have any connection to it but it must be turned on. The moment you click on the ezdac to disable it, the scopes all freeze.

Ok, I worked out what's going on. It appears that, by default, the audio engine in Max is switched off. To get it working you either need to turn on some audio object, like the ezdac~, or go to the Audio Status dialogue available on the Options menu.

Strange that the Scope~ and Phasor~ objects don't, themselves, turn on the audio engine.
