Could someone please explain to me how I would go about creating a max device that can send midi notes to any one of the 16 assignable midi channels inside ableton? I've been playing with the noteout object but have not had any luck getting this to work.

On Windows I use a virtual MIDI port [1]. It's free for one port.

If you are on Mac I found for example this [2] page. Not sure if it's any good

In your locked patch, you can double-click on the [noteout] object to select a MIDI port.
